Save your medium-formats from decay

Do you still have old medium-format pictures of special moments with your family? Then you shouldn’t lose any time and have your slides scanned. Like all old media, medium-formats won’t last forever. These valueable memories will decrease in quality with time.

Why you should have your medium-formats scanned

  • Colour fadings: Fading colours are the first sign of age. Saturation and brilliance will lessen.
  • Colour casts: Material starts to change with time. This leads to colour casts, which means that colours start to shift in a certain direction.
  • Mould: Often medium-formats are stored in the attic or in the cellar, where they are exposed to temperature fluctuation and and humidity. This causes mould, which attacks the slide material.
  • No optimal storage conditions: At 7° degrees room temperature and a humidity of 15% medium-formats have optimal storage conditions. It’s quite difficult to achieve this conditions in reality.
  • No slide projector: Even if your medium-formats are in a good condition,  you need a working slide projector and also a suitable projection surface.

If you have your medium-formats scanned today, you save some valuable moments and avoid further signs of age. Any questions? Our customer service will gladly give you advice!

Optimal colours with post-processing

Thanks to the professional post-processing of your images, MEDIAFIX provides you with an optimal image and colour experience, even with older images. We are specialised in scanning medium-formats and have professional scanners that enable resolutions of up to 3,000 dpi. Colour correction is done in a self-developed, semi-automated process, in which we match the colours of your image with standard image values. Professional post-processing can only be booked for positives.

If you should choose professional post-processing for your images, we will provide you with both the improved versions and the unprocessed scans. You then have the direct comparison. In addition to the colour values, we also correct the contrast and brightness of your images. Experience shows that post-processing is almost always worthwhile. It makes the old recordings appear in a new glow. The professional post-processing is already available for 12p per medium-format.

Premium-inversion via raw data

Unfortunately, medium-formats usually show colour casts and contrast changes after a few years. Our raw data inversion enables us to correct these changes in most cases. With the Premium-inversion we maintain all image information. MEDIAFIX provides you with a clear and sharp image that can be easily enlarged. The Premium-inversion is available for only 19p per picture and is only bookable for negatives.

General information about the medium-format

The medium-format still enjoys great popularity for demanding amateurs and professionals. It is located between 35mm and large-format photography. Due to the larger surface, it is able to contain more image information than conventional 35mm film. Another difference to 35mm film is the general appearance, since medium-formats are available as roll films. Compared to large-format photography, the medium-format offers a high degree of flexibility in terms of usability. Nowadays, the medium-format is still used in professional photography.

Medium-format photography

Mittelformatkamera

The actual format of the film was determined by the camera. The medium-format film is usually 6cm “high” and about 83cm long (type 120). One side of the medium-format is therefore 6cm long, the other side is variable. Thus the number of photos that can be taken depends on the recording format of the camera. The most common medium-format is the 6x6cm format with which 12 pictures could be shot. Other sizes are 6×4.5cm, 6x7cm, 6x8cm and 6x9cm. An exception is the 4x4cm film, which was mainly used by Rollei cameras. MEDIAFIX scans your medium-formats with a resolution up to 3,112 dpi. Well-known manufacturers in medium-format photography are Hasselblad, Rolleiflex, Mamiya, Fuji and Kiev. MEDIAFIX is specialised in digitising 6×6 and other medium-format recordings.
